L’utilisation d’internet comme matériau de recherche soulève de nouveaux enjeux sur le plan de l’éthique de la recherche scientifique en sciences humaines et sociales. Dans le domaine de la santé, l’étude des espaces d’échange en ligne pose des enjeux éthiques particuliers qui sont liés au caractère sensible des pratiques et à la nature du matériel. L’objectif de cet article est d’examiner les enjeux éthiques entourant l’étude de 2 forums au sein desquels des jeunes adultes échangent sur l’utilisation de médicaments à des fins de recherche de sensations et d’amélioration des performances cognitives. Nous mettons en évidence et discutons de 6 catégories d’enjeux éthiques qui sont liés : 1) à l’accès aux échanges en ligne, 2) au recrutement de participants à des entrevues de recherche, 3) au recueil du consentement libre et éclairé, 4) aux contacts avec les participants, 5) à la gestion des risques associés à la participation au projet de recherche, et enfin, 6) à la présentation et à la diffusion des résultats de recherche.
