Le manque de liens que l’on perçoit entre les « relations internationales » et la « philosophie politique » est en réalité une étrangeté du discours anglo-américain en ce qui touche les « relations internationales », particulièrement, un produit des hypothèses libérales qui sous-tendent ce discours. Cependant, le travail contemporain fait tomber la barrière qui s’est érigée entre la philosophie politique et l’international ; un tel travail serait mieux catégorisé selon trois problématiques : « interne-externe », « universaliste-particulariste » et « société-système ». De cette perspective, la distinction entre les relations internationales et la philosophie politique disparaît – les relations internationales ( ri ) prennent leur juste place en tant que division de la philosophie politique appliquée.
