Durch die zunehmende Globalisierung und Dynamisierung des Marktumfelds sind Unternehmen mit immer größeren Unsicherheiten konfrontiert. Beispielhaft sollen an dieser Stelle nur die folgenden Fragen genannt werden: wie sind die Marktchancen eines neuen Produkts? Wie sieht die Kreditwürdigkeit eines neuen Geschäftspartners aus? Wie wird sich die Konkurrenz verhalten? Wie wird sich der Preis entwickeln? Zur Beantwortung dieser und ähnlicher Fragen ist oftmals die Quantifizierung von Wahrscheinlichkeiten notwendig. Erfahrungsgemäß ist die Generierung solcher Wahrscheinlichkeiten aber alles andere als einfach.
