Abstract
This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: To review all randomized and quasi‐randomized (methods of allocation that are especially susceptible to selection bias) controlled trials pertaining to the efficacy of acupuncture for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. The two specific objectives of this systematic review are: 1) To assess the efficacy of acupuncture versus standard medical treatment only; real acupuncture versus sham acupuncture; or acupucture plus standard care versus standard care alone for chemotherapy‐induced nausea or vomiting in cancer patients when the treatments are administered prophylactically (prior to the patient experiencing symptoms). 2) To assess the efficacy of acupuncture versus standard medical treatment only; real acupuncture versus sham acupuncture; or acupucture plus standard care versus standard care alone for chemotherapy‐induced nausea or vomiting in cancer patients when the treatments are administered after symptoms have begun.
