Abstract
El rescate de los acontecimientos desconocidos u olvidados es tarea tipica del historiador. En el campo de la traduccion, mayor es el merito cuando se logra fechar las primeras manifestaciones de este “arte”. En 2004, Julio Cesar Santoyo me tomo por sorpresa –grata– anunciandome que habia encontrado la primera traduccion impresa en America, una carta del corsario ingles Richard Hawkins impresa en 1594 (Santoyo 2006). Dicho hallazgo de Santoyo fungio tambien de acicate por encontrar otras “primeras traducciones impresas” en Hispanoamerica. Varios colaboradores de HISTAL siguen en la busqueda de estas traducciones en sus respectivos paises. Me es grato en esta oportunidad ofrecer en homenaje al profesor Santoyo una presentacion de la primera traduccion impresa en Venezuela.
