L’accès à l’enseignement supérieur constitue un enjeu majeur dans un contexte où plus de 46 millions de personnes sont sans emploi et où le chômage des jeunes est élevé, notamment par manque de qualification (OCDE, 2014). Or, si le nombre d’étudiants présentant un besoin éducatif particulier (BEP) a crû dans la plupart des pays de l’OCDE, la réussite universitaire de ces étudiants est bien moindre et la possession d’un diplôme de l’enseignement supérieur ne facilite pas toujours l’accès à l’emploi. Aussi cet article appréhende-t-il les conditions de réussite universitaire et d’insertion professionnelle d’étudiants français présentant un besoin éducatif identifié à l’aune des modes d’orchestration de l’accessibilité promus par les services qui s’adressent à ces étudiants. Il décrit à cette fin les représentations de l’étudiant à BEP véhiculées par les conceptions de l’accompagnement revendiquées par ces services et le rapport à la différence sous-jacent aux dynamiques d’accessibilisation de l’environnement universitaire. Il s’appuie sur une recherche relative aux conditions d’études et d’insertion professionnelle d’un échantillon d’étudiants français présentant un BEP. Cette recherche conjugue la perspective statistique offerte par l’exploitation d’un questionnaire avec l’approche qualitative induite par la réalisation d’entretiens.
