O acirramento dos conflitos socioambientais demanda novas formas de compreensao dos regimes de apropriacao, manejo e gestao dos bens ambientais. A teoria dos recursos comuns de E. Ostrom realizou uma critica a tese da Tragedia dos Comuns e aos pressupostos de eficiencia da propriedade privada, mas enfatizou os dilemas da acao coletiva e a configuracao de arranjos institucionais. No campo de estudos, prevalece a compreensao dos comuns como os recursos ambientais em si, o qual a forma juridica dedica-se a enquadrar nas normas administrativas de titularidade publica ou privada, reduzindo sua dimensao relacional. Na ultima decada, um conjunto de literatura e de experiencias de mobilizacoes sociais reivindicam a defesa dos comuns como base para protecao do ambiente. O artigo objetiva revisar criticamente a abordagem da teoria dos recursos comuns para investigar eventuais correlacoes e distincoes com a emergente gramatica dos comuns nos marcos de uma racionalidade socioambiental emergente, a qual se pretende caracterizar. O estudo realiza revisao de literatura, articulando a teoria de E. Ostrom, com as recentes perspectivas de Dardot e Laval e pesquisadores latino-americanos. Nos resultados, argumenta-se pela necessidade de superacao do individualismo metodologico, a importância de incorporar pressupostos da ecologia politica e de estudos em profundidade que compreendam o carater constitutivo das dimensoes culturais e simbolicas das relacoes com o ambiente. Realiza-se uma sistematizacao desta emergente categoria dos comuns enquanto conceito relacional, nao mercantil, instituinte, diversificado em relacoes em solidariedade, cooperacao, convivencialidade, ancestralidade e interdependencia.
