Perserikatan Bangsa-bangsa (PBB) pada tahun 2015 merumuskan 17 poin Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) untuk menanggulangi permasalahan yang ada di dunia, seperti kemiskinan, pemanasan global, serta menjawab isu-isu sosial, ekonomi, dan lingkungan yang ada di perkotaan. Salah satu tujuan yang terdapat dalam SDG’s adalah pada tujuan no. 11 (sebelas) yaitu Sustainable Cities and Communities. Salah satu permasalahan dunia yang dibahas dalam tujuan ini yaitu permukiman kumuh yang terdapat pada poin 11.1, dimana permasalahan ini masih banyak ditemukan di dunia, salah satunya di kawasan DAS Metro, Kota Malang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk merumuskan strategi penanganan kawasan permukiman kumuh sesuai dengan prinsip SDG’s yang dijelaskan dalam tujuan 11 poin 11.1. Penelitian ini melewati 3 tahap analisis, yaitu tahap pertama untuk mengetahui kesesuian kebijakan yang ada di Kota Malang dengan prinsip SDG’s. Tahap kedua yaitu menentukan karakteristik permukiman kumuh yang ada di kelurahan sekitar DAS Metro yaitu Kelurahan Bandulan, Bandungrejosari, Sukun, dan Tanjungrejo. Dan tahapan terakhir yaitu merumuskan strategi penanganan permukiman kumuh menggunakan metode analisis triangulasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa strategi penanganan permukiman kumuh yang dirinci berdasarkan hasil karakteristik yang didapatkan.
