Abstract
O objetivo deste trabalho é refletir sobre como o jornalismo reforça a estigmatização de regiões perigosas e, por extensão, das pessoas que as habitam. No estudo propõe-se um diálogo entre taxa de homicídios, representações de violência em noticiários criminais e percepções de telespectadores que vivem no espaço mais estigmatizado pelos programas. O objeto empírico é formado a partir de uma análise de conteúdo de 80 edições do Balanço Geral e do Tribuna da Massa e de entrevistas em profundidade com seis telespectadores que vivem no bairro Cidade Industrial de Curitiba. Embora os dois telejornais estigmatizem a região como violenta, os participantes ligam a noção de perigo a outros lugares, o que aponta para o território geográfico tanto como um dispositivo de estigmatização quanto como uma comunidade de referência relevante para a produção de sentidos.
