A melhoria de processos produtivos em uma organização é uma necessidade em virtude da elevada competividade no mercado, além de demandas por parte de órgãos reguladores. No setor mineral, tais ações se tornam ainda mais importantes, uma vez que o setor está constantemente sujeito a incertezas não aplicáveis a outros setores industriais. Neste trabalho foi utilizada a metodologia Lean Seis Sigma para o aumento da eficiência operacional da etapa de Separação Magnética de Alta Intensidade, diante do fato de que a recuperação metalúrgica estava, em média, 7,21% menor que o valor esperado. A execução do projeto foi feita seguindo-se o ciclo DMAIC, onde as investigações realizadas mostraram que 52,3% das causas-raiz estavam atribuídas à própria operação do equipamento (separador magnético). Intervenções no processo e adequações no funcionamento do separador resultaram em um aumento de 9,66% na média da recuperação metalúrgica, a qual ficou 1,75% maior que a meta estabelecida (94,63%). Uma redução de 65,66% no desvio padrão desta variável também foi observada, o que se traduz em uma redução da variabilidade geral do processo.
