Le numéro 10 de la revue Féeries intitulé « Conte et croyance » explore le lien à la fois ontologique et problématique du conte à la croyance, particulièrement aigu au tournant des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles — moment où la philosophie humienne interroge la fiction et la croyance. C'est sur un cadrage théorique et une présentation générale que E. Sempère ouvre le dossier, qui part des contes dits « traditionnels » : C. Velay-Vallantin étudie la rencontre entre le conte du « Petit Chaperon rouge » et la Bête du Gévaudan, et J. Pédeflous la transformation par un conte espagnol de « Cendrillon » en légende apostolique (en annexe est proposée, outre ce conte de Madrazo, une liste des traductions et adaptations des contes français et allemands en Espagne). Ensuite J. Mainil, pour la France du XIXe siècle, et M. Fournier, pour le Canada des XIXe et XXe siècles, s’intéressent à l’orientation religieuse ou au contraire laïque des éditions et utilisations pédagogiques des contes. La façon dont le conte oriental ou orientalisant français transmet et interprète les motifs issus de l’islam est l’objet des contributions de P. Pelckmans (Galland) et de R. Robert (Pétis de la Croix, Caylus et Cazotte). Les contes orientaux de Potocki (D. Triaire) montrent quant à eux une mise à distance de toute croyance qui annonce le Manuscrit trouvé à Saragosse. G. Armand et Y. Citton étudient le lien entre croyance et connaissance, ou vérité, soit au travers de la question de la science (Pygmalion de Boureau-Deslandes) pour le premier, soit au travers des croyances collectives (Lamekis de Mouhy) pour le second. Voltaire et Diderot font enfin l’objet des trois dernières contributions : le conte voltairien est imprégné d’un imaginaire religieux (G. Di Rosa), tandis que Diderot utilise l’espace du conte et ses dispositifs énonciatifs (M. Fourgnaud) pour faire le « procès » des croyances et pour mettre « en question » (J.-C. Igalens) la croyance.
