Les interrogatives totales en français québécois dans l’écrit SMS : à la croisée de l’oral et de l’écrit

Abstract
Le français est connu pour avoir quatre variantes pour l’interrogative totale. Le français en usage au Québec en comporte une cinquième, très bien implantée à l’oral, mais rejetée à l’écrit par la norme : le -tu interrogatif. Cet article a pour objectif de quantifier la présence de cette variante dans l’écrit SMS, un écrit en principe moins assujetti à la norme et considéré comme plus proche de l’oral par son côté spontané. L’étude a été réalisée à partir d’un corpus de 641 interrogatives totales relevées dans les SMS du projet texto4science. Une comparaison de leur distribution avec les données de l’oral est ensuite faite. Elle permet de constater que le -tu interrogatif, 2e variante la plus utilisée à l’oral en français québécois, n’est plus que la 3e variante quand il s’agit de l’écrit SMS. Deux paramètres morphosyntaxiques (choix du sujet et du verbe) sont explorés pour expliquer cette différence dans le classement. Des hypothèses extralinguistiques sont finalement formulées : la longueur autorisée des messages, la visée communicative du SMS et le poids de la norme prescriptive de l’écrit.
