L’Approche neurolinguistique (ANL) est une méthode d’apprentissage du français, langue étrangère ou seconde, créée par Germain et Netten, en 1998, au Canada, à destination des élèves anglophones apprenant le français. Selon Guedat-Bittighoffer et coll. (2021), elle permettrait de sécuriser émotionnellement les élèves allophones face à l’apprentissage du FLS. Elle a été expérimentée et évaluée dans plusieurs pays (Chine, Canada, Japon, Iran) auprès d’apprenants non migrants. Toutefois, certains aspects méthodologiques des évaluations quantitatives menées dans ces pays sont discutés dans cet article. Tenant compte de certaines limites méthodologiques, une évaluation de cette méthode a été menée auprès de 91 élèves allophones (âge moyen de 13,7 ans), scolarisés (SA) ou non antérieurement dans leur pays d’origine (NSA), répartis dans deux groupes : un groupe bénéficiant de la méthode ANL (groupe expérimental : GE) et un groupe apprenant le français avec des méthodes plus traditionnelles (groupe contrôle : GC). À 7 mois d’intervalle, en début (pré‑test) et en fin d’année scolaire (post‑test), les deux groupes ont été testés à l’aide de tâches langagières en français, à l’oral et à l’écrit. On s’attendait à ce que, par rapport aux élèves GC, les élèves GE atteignent un niveau supérieur à l’oral et à l’écrit. Les résultats montrent qu’à niveau initial identique, après contrôle de variables secondaires, il n’est pas possible de conclure à un effet de l’ANL sur l’évolution des performances, sauf pour l’épreuve de conversation (tests OPI), objectif phare de l’ANL, pour laquelle les élèves NSA du GE progressent plus vite que leurs pairs GC.
