A história como recurso educacional pode ser uma ferramenta muito útil para trabalhar várias áreas e conteúdo. É muito comum o professor pedir a seus alunos que escrevam histórias baseadas em suas experiências pessoais, sobre o que eles mais gostam, sobre qual seria sua excursão preferida. Mas, neste caso, iremos um pouco mais além e abordaremos a questão de como usar a história para aprender ciências naturais. O objetivo geral desta pesquisa é analisar a importância da contação de histórias na educação infantil. A contação de histórias, a leitura, se constituem em atividades capazes de incentivar, estimular e motivar aprendizagens intelectuais bem como em seu crescimento sócio moral. O método da contação de história para crianças na primeira infância é de fundamental importância, pois elas aprendem a ler e escrever na primeira série. Meninos e meninas desde sua concepção ouvem narrativas de acontecimentos cotidianos de nossas vidas, portanto, pode-se dizer que eles estão familiarizados com as estruturas narrativas; como conhecemos informações de outras épocas, temos estado em contacto com acontecimentos ocorridos, reais ou fictícios. A alfabetização inicial, a narração de histórias, os primórdios das práticas de leitura, não só promovem o acesso ao conteúdo da cultura, do conhecimento, dos valores, mas também acionam importantes mecanismos relacionados ao desenvolvimento cognitivo, linguístico e criativo das crianças.
