Cette contribution au dossier thématique de Comicalités sur « La bande dessinée à voix haute » vise à documenter l’essor sonore que la bande dessinée connaît, en France, entre 2018 et 2023. Elle se base sur des interviews avec quatre professionnels qui ont enregistré, à cette époque, des séries d’albums de bande dessinée ou de littérature pour la jeunesse. Tous les quatre témoignent de leur première expérience en la matière. Les entretiens sont croisés et structurés en deux temps, le premier retraçant l’entrée de la bande dessinée sur le marché français du livre audio, le second exposant son développement dans un autre format de narration sonore : la série audio. On verra que, contrairement à une société de production sonore telle que Blynd, les filiales audio des grands groupes d’édition tardent à s’emparer de la bande dessinée, à l’exception de pionniers que sont Audiolib et le pôle audio de Bayard Jeunesse. Cela s’explique par des coûts de production élevés, par le poids du modèle de l’audiolivre et par une sous-estimation du public adulte des bandes dessinées.
