Abstract
Dankzij een aanzienlijke financiële bijdrage van AWN Flevoland en de inzet van vrijwilligers, heeft de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) belangrijk onderzoek afgerond naar een groot scheepswrak in de Noordoostpolder. Dit wrak, ernstig bedreigd door ploegwerkzaamheden, inklinking van de bodem en degradatie van archeologische materialen, blijkt een koopvaarder uit de vroege achttiende eeuw te zijn, te groot voor de ondiepe Zuiderzee waar het verging. De constructie en aanwezige vondsten duiden op gebruik in open zee. Belangrijke vragen over de datering, het scheepstype, de herkomst, bestemming en de aard van de lading blijven echter onbeantwoord. Yftinus van Popta van de RUG benadrukt het belang van vervolgonderzoek, gezien de slechte conserveringsstaat van het wrak. De urgentie voor een volledige opgraving en gedetailleerde documentatie is hoog, vooral omdat vergelijkbare voorbeelden zeldzaam zijn. Dit onderzoek wordt beschouwd als noodzakelijk om verdere informatie over dit unieke maritieme erfgoed te onthullen.
