Abstract

ABSTRACT: In our study, we worked for the airline Air Canada to study a way to forecast air freight demand. Several customs in the field of air freight transport create a lot of uncertainty on the quantity of cargo that will have to be transported for a given order. Overfilled planes can be an issue brought from this uncertainty. A reoptimizing method for cargo shipping plans has been developped by Zago et al. in a previous project with the airline. The input this method requires is the parameters of the approximation of probability distribution of the show-up rate of the orders. We study a way to estimate these parameters then improving our forecast with specific groupings of the orders. We first group the orders according to their geographic origins or destinations then try an other aggregation according to the customers who made the orders. We decide to use the aggregation by customers for the customers with the most numerous orders ; for smaller customers, the geographic grouping will be prefered. An extension of the study is then made where we extrapolate the parameters we estimated to forecast the demand of freight to be transported as a way to confirm the consistency of our previous results. Finally, a study of the overflow of the flights is made showing that the forecast of this demand permits a prediction of the number and quantity of overflowing cargo in the fligths of the network. The aggregation by customers is still shown to bring the best results for forecasting the overflow.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
