Abstract
Comics is a medium which has greatly developed in Montreal since the end of the 1990. This article examines first of all the recent comics production in Montreal and the translation from French into English, in order to understand its reasons and the francophone and anglophone publishers’ perspectives. We also analyse a number of case studies (Mile End, La Collectionneuse, Yves, le roi de la cruise, Vil et misérable, Les Cousines vampires), in order to understand who translates these texts, to analyse processes of translation and self-translation, to point out which treatment is reserved to Quebec French specificities and what strategies translators use for their translation, as one of the peculiarities of comics translation is the fact that the text is constrained by the presence of the image. In the conclusion, we try to imagine what future there is for francophone comics in Montreal.
Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.
