Résumé
The aim of this investigation was to study the effects of Sertindole at initial stages of schizophrenia and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. It was a naturalistic investigation that involved 30 patients. All the patients underwent a clinical-psychopathological investigation, and also were evaluated by means of a number of instruments, such as PANSS, the Questionnaire for Assessment of Mental Patients Social Functioning and Quality of Life, the Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS) and the EuroQol. The researchers also evaluated the extrapyramidal symptoms, body mass index, and changes in the QTc interval abnormalities during psychotropic drug therapy. All the measurements were taken before starting medication and after 1, 2, 3 and 6 months of treatment with Sertindole. Patients' cognitive functions were evaluated by means of the test battery the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS). The results of this investigation show the effect of Sertindole (Serdolect) at initial stages of schizophrenia and schizophrenia spectrum disorders in patients with varying severity of symptoms. It provided rapid and at the same time gradual improvement, with even reduction of individual components of the syndrome. Very obvious was the effect of the medication on thought disorders and apathic-adynamic symptoms. As for neurocognitive functions, the improvements concerned mainly motor and executive functions. There was also a noticeable improvement of patientssocial functioning and their quality of life, and the medication was well tolerated.
