Some of the more prominent of these organizations are: The Women's Sports Foundation (1974), the Israel Organization for Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (1980), Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (1981), Women's Sports and Fitness Foundation (1984), The European Women and Sport Group (1992), The Hellenic Union for Promoting Women in Sport and Physical Activity (1994), and the Japanese Society for Sport and Gender Studies (2002). 2. The International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) was established in 1994 at the First World Conference on Women and Sport held in Brighton, which was followed by the first conference devoted to women and sport that was sponsored by the IOC in 1996. 3.
