Mundo Grande : Hip Clinical Diagnosis and Journal Translation

Résumé
Mundo grande Big world Groβe WeltAikamoinen maailmaGrand mondeGrote wereld Grande mondo Yes, indeed, it's a big world. But before we get to the theme of our Editorial, we want to give a “shout-out” (shout-out [noun] slang. A public expression of thanks or gratitude)1Urban Dictionaryhttp://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shout-outGoogle Scholar to Lisa Tibor and Jon Sekiya from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Just 3 months ago, in the September 2008 Editorial, we urged that, “Researchers needs to focus on diagnosis and indications for hip arthroscopy,”2Lubowitz J.H. Poehling G.G. Diagnosis, safety, efficacy: Hip and shoulder arthroscopy.Arthroscopy. 2008; 24: 973Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (5) Google Scholar and in this issue, Tibor and Sekiya respond with “Differential Diagnosis of Pain Around the Hip Joint.”3Tibor L.M. Sekiya J.K. Differential diagnosis of pain around the hip joint.Arthroscopy. 2008; 24: 1407-1421Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (194) Google Scholar We feel this is a vital contribution to the Journal. Hip arthroscopy is an emerging gold standard treatment of hip pathology.4Lubowitz J.H. Poehling G.G. Hip arthroscopy: An emerging gold standard.Arthroscopy. 2006; 22: 1257-1259Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (38) Google Scholar Yet, as recent students of the latest hip arthroscopy techniques, we must begin with a thorough understanding of our patient's history, physical examination, and imaging studies before we may proceed to apply our arthroscopic surgical skills. Diagnosis and surgical indications may be obvious when we are faced with a patient whose hip MRI reveals loose bodies, or whose hip radiographs show advanced osteoarthritis. However, absent obvious loose bodies or advanced arthritis, hip pain may present a diagnostic challenge. Readers of this month's Current Concepts review by Tibor and Sekiya will be well prepared for such a test. And now to the big, big world. As stated on the cover of every issue, Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery is the official journal of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and, importantly, the official journal of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). Since the impressive growth of ISAKOS in recent years, the number of manuscript submissions to our journal, and in particular the number of international submissions, has soared.5Lubowitz J.H. Poehling G.G. We acknowledge that our readers are busy with their practices and their lives, that there are many medical meetings, and that international travel may be both costly and time consuming. We argue that continuing medical education is a vital part of our practices, that combining education with vacation enriches our lives, and that a Biennial Congress schedule represents a rare, cost-effective, and time-effective opportunity to learn and share (in the words of ISAKOS President Paolo Aglietti and Program Committee Chairman Kazunori Yasuda) “in the exchange of scientific information, as well as network with leaders and friends in orthopaedics from around the world.” And if you attend the ISAKOS Congress,21ISAKOS7th biennial ISAKOS congress preliminary program.www.isakos.comGoogle Scholar we hope you will register (online or onsite) for the Journal Review Course for authors and reviewers. For the first time, Arthroscopy is presenting the course jointly with the ESSKA Journal, Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy. We'll see you in Osaka! Finally, coming in 2009, is the initiation of a new foray into the big world. Beginning in January, all of our journal article abstracts will be translated into Spanish (todos los resúmenes de artículos de nuestra revista serán traducidos al idioma español). Our Spanish abstract translations will be published on-line on our journal website (www.arthroscopyjournal.org). Our goal is to add additional languages in the future. As always, we solicit letters to the editor to let us know your thoughts. It's a big world …
