The Lenten journey that we have undertaken this year has been marked by prayer, fasting, and alms giving that mark each Lenten season. This Lent also saw the resignation of His Holiness Benedict XVI, and the recent Conclave to elect our new Pope. These past weeks have captivated the church and the world.

Résumé
We sincerely thank His Holiness Benedict XVI for his ministry and his teaching. He has touched us with his profound love of God and the church. We in the Archdiocese of Edmonton pray for Benedict XVI as he retires to a life of contemplation and prayer for all of us. We especially pray for our new Holy Father Pope Francis, and thank him for accepting the awesome responsibility of shepherding the Church in his ministry as the Bishop of Rome. I have assured the Holy Father of our prayers and loving support as he begins his new ministry. The Church will soon be approaching the season of Easter. The Easter season is best understood when we celebrate it in the radiance of the Easter Triduum, also known as the Great Three Days, from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. We are able to witness the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ, his Life, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension into heaven. The season of Easter, which begins on the evening of Easter Sunday, and lasts fifty days until Pentecost Sunday, is a celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. This is unfolded throughout the entire fifty days of Easter through the scripture readings that we hear at Mass and in the celebration of the sacraments. The Easter season permits each of us to come to the realization that there is nothing more beautiful than God’s love and salvation.
