Résumé

récupéré en direct d'OpenAlex

In the global age, many Korean students are going out to study abroad. Especially, large portion of students are going to United States and Canada which is English-speaking areas. However, even thought many young students go to abroad with their American/Canadian dream, they confront with many difficulties. Many students experience hardships that come from their language barriers and cultural differences in their classrooms and daily lives. Therefore, it is important to understand the youths behavior pattern and reasons for their difficulties to guide them more efficiently. Whether youths go abroad for the purpose of immigration or studying abroad, while students who just arrived in host society prefer to speak in Korean, students prefer to speak in English as they stay for longer times in host societies they are in. Usually the young students are quick to learn the language of host society compare to older students. While students show high interests in computer, music, film and movie, the reason of their interests is assumed to be caused from their language problem. Youths want to have professional jobs as doctor, scientist when they first arrive at host society. However, as they stay in a host society for longer times, they show a tendency to lower their future goal. This phenomenon is thought to be caused from students language barrier. Also, young students show high exposure to smoking and alcohol due to their emotional problems. In addition to the exposure of smoking and alcohol, the problem of violence and inability of controlling anger is also showed from students. However, the frequencies of these problems get less and less as students get older and find their inner calamity. When students discover their problems in host society, it is shown that they have counseling with their parents for the first time. However, the studies show that while it is students father who counsel who talks with their children in early times of their staying in host society, it is their mothers who talk with their children in later times. Since the help from friends are getting significant as students get older, the role of friends considered as very significant too. The reason for not having helps when youths need help was revealed as absence of their helper. This indicates the need of youth ministering organizations. Therefore, the need of guidance for youths through youth groups in churches is becoming serious issues. The guidance of youth ministry will have to take part in guidance of character, faith, and time management as well as guidance for their school studies. The need of guiding students in foreign countries is getting more and more significant since students in foreign countries have more difficulties compare to students in their mother country. When students overcome their adversities in foreign lands with supports from their mentors and counselors, they will be able to contribute to Korean communities in abroad and Korean society in global age when they grow up.
