CAPACIDADE DOS TESTES ISOCINETICOS EM PREDIZER A “PERFORMANCE” NO SALTO VERTICAL EM JOGADORES DE VOLEIBOL
Notice bibliographique
Résumé
THE ABILITY OF ISOKINETIC TESTS TO PREDICT VERTICAL JUMPING PERFORMANCE IN VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS Predicting performance through muscle function tests is a very important issue in sport science. The selection of a test is based on its ability to predict motor performance. To reach this goal the test should be able to simulate sport skills and be valid and reliable. The aims of this study were: a) test the ability of isokinetic strength tests to predict jumping performance in different age groups of volleyball players; b) compare groups to verify if the performance in the vertical jump and in the strength test increases at the same rate. Thirty volleyball players were divided into three groups, over 20 years old (G20), between 17 and 19 (G17) and 15 and 16 years old (G15). Knee extensors strength was tested in an isokinetic dynamometer “Cybex 6000” at the following angular velocities; 180, 240 and 300 /s. An “Ergo Jump” was used to m easure vertical jumping height in squat jumps. Only the G20 had a significant equation to predict jumping performance through the isokinetic test. When the response variables were compared between groups a different pattern UGRINOWITSCH, C. et alii Rev. paul. Educ. Fis., Sao Paulo, 14(2):172-83, jul./dez. 2000 182 was found, the isokinetic values improved with age (p < 0.05) even though the values of vertical jumping ability did not improve at the same rate. Knee extension isokinetic tests do not seem to be a good predictor of jumping performance. UNITERMS: Isokinetic strength; Vertical jump; Physical training; Volleyball.
