Résumé
GLOBALISTS' NEW WEAPONS. (By Gennady Zyuganov. Sovetskaya Rossia, June 18, 2015, p. 1. Condensed text:) Today, it is very important take note of recent key trends pointing the transition of transnational a new phase of colonial diktat; and the transition a new stage when it comes to the seizure of world markets, and financial and state institutions. These trends, connected processes that at first glance have no direct bearing on our country, show that immediate threats Russia are in fact growing. Russia is a target for those who are seeking make their world domination absolute and unconditional. ... I am primarily referring the so-called trade agreements: the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), both initiated by the US. State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin was the representative of the Russian ruling establishment who openly warned about the danger of the intentions of those who are drafting these agreements and making preparations for their signing. In an article published in late May [sic, April; see Current Digest, Vol. 67, No. 16, pp. 15-16 - Trans.], he aptly described these agreements as the US striving change the world to suit its own views. . . . ... We often speak angrily about American diktat in the world and about the US striving forcibly export democracy, [saying] that America has assumed the role of a world prosecutor and cop and insists on its right play this role anywhere. It is important understand, however, that the US, which is today the mightiest and at the same time the most sinister power in the eyes of almost the majority of the people in the world, cannot be described as a fully independent state. The role of the US can be correctly assessed only while bearing in mind that it is the giant headquarters of the power of global capital that is seeking to dominate the entire world: transnational financial and economic organizations whose goal is control all institutions ensuring the national sovereignty of individual countries. And American governmental agencies, above all, are under their control. ... The agreement known as TTIP between the US and the European Union has been in the making for over two years now. Its most fervent advocates insist that it should be signed before the end of 2015. As for the TPP, it is in the early stages of development, but TPP talks have sharply intensified recently. The details of all these talks remain hidden from the broad public. The US is attempting include Canada, Japan, Chile, Mexico, Malaysia and Peru in the TPP. The signing of the said agreements would lead a situation where about two-thirds of the global gross domestic product will be produced under US control. Meanwhile, Russia, China and India, which are a potential counterweight US hegemony in the world, would be completely surrounded by states that are in the zone of total American control. Since the agreement between the US and the EU is better developed, it merits special attention. ... On Feb. 13, 2013, US President Barack Obama, [then] European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso and [then] European Council president Herman van Rompuy decided sign the TTIP. The substance of the talks was still being concealed both from the European public and from Russia. So far there have been nine rounds of talks, the last of which took place between April 20 and April 24. The 10th and decisive round is slated be held before the end of June. ... In the opinion of many experts both in Russia and abroad, the talks have reached an impasse. This is also evident from the fact that 14 European Parliament committees also had become involved in drafting the TTIP. The TTIP agreement is supported by all US government agencies, as well as by the EU leadership. However, the broad European public is strongly opposed it. Leftist and ultraright parties in European countries, antiglobalist and environmental organizations, numerous big business and trade union representatives and reputable economists have united in a bid prevent the adoption of the TTIP. . . . ... About 1 million Europeans have signed a petition the EU listing the terms of the agreement that are categorically rejected by the general population. The authors of the petition are demanding a public hearing on the TTIP. Political activists have already initiated a legal procedure challenge the agreement. . . . ... All of this is happening in Europe, which, it would seem, has long been accustomed taking the American political and economic leadership, and the American model of the world for granted. What is the reason, then, for the Europeans' de facto revolt against the latest US initiative? . . . ... The main reason for the European protest against the agreement lies in its political terms. The Europeans think this agreement could negatively affect state policy.
