Efficacy observation on Ginkgo biloba extract in the treatment of Parkin-son's disease with mild cognitive impairment

Objective To observe the effect of Ginkgo biloba extract(EGB) for the cognitive function of patients with Parkinson's disease with mild cognitive impairment(PD-MCI). Methods Eighty-three patients with PD-MCI who were selected in neurology clinic and ward and rehabilitation ward of the first people's hospital of Wenling according to PD-MCI diagnostic criteria published by international movement disorder society in 2012 and MoCA scale were randomly divided into the treatment group(43 cases) and the control group(40 cases). The patients in both groups were given basic treatment, while the patients in the treatment group were given Ginkgo biloba extract on the basis of basic treatment, and the course of treatment was 6 months. The Mini-mental Status Examination(MMSE) score and Montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA) score were measured before treatment and at 3 months and 6 months after treatment respectively. The score changes of MMSE and MoCA,treatment effective rate and transformation of Alzheimer's disease of two groups at 3 months and 6 months after treatment were analyzed and compared. Results Compared with before treatment, the MMSE score and MoCA score at 3 months and 6 months after treatment in the treatment group increased obviously(P 0.05), the MMSE score and MoCA score at 3 months and 6 months after treatment in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group(P 0.05), the effective rate of MMSE and MoCA at 3 months and 6 months after treatment in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group(P 0.05,P 0.01), the effective rate of MMSE and MoCA at 6 months after treatment in the treatment group were higher than those at 3 months after treatment(P 0.05), the differences were not significant in transformation rate of Alzheimer's disease at 3 months and 6 months after treatment between two groups(P 0.05). Conclusion Ginkgo biloba extract may continuously improve the cognitive function of patients with PD-MCI within 6 months, the curative effect is increased with the extension of time.
