Abstract In line to development of social epidemiology, WHO develops social determinant of healthapproach, in relation to this approach among health promotion experts socioecology determinant has beendeveloped. This manuscript describe development of socioecology approach which has been linked withdevelopment of health promotion started with ottawa charter . To look for socioecological determinant ofobesity at university students , an indepth interviews of 16 obese students and five of their parents, 7 vicedean/ rector for student affairs, and 10 food vendors at the university and 5 manager of fast food industrynear campus it describes the socioecological determinant of obesity at university student, discuss how toextend paradigm of health promotion from changing personal behaviour to changing personal, communitybehaviour and changing policy relate to daily life/ Sociecological determinant .It discuss how to implementthis approach as part of development of public health and community medicine to overcome public healthproblems. Keywords: health promotion, socio ecology Abstrak Sejalan dengan berkembangnya sosial epidemiologi,WHO mengembangkan pendekatan determinan sosial kesehatan . Berkaitan dengan pendekatan itu diantara pemerhati promosi kesehatan konsep sosioekologi determinan juga berkembang, Makalah ini menguraikan perkembangan pendekatan sosioekologi dikaitkan dengan perkembangan upaya promosi kesehatanyang dimulia melalui ottawa charter. Untuk melihatmodel determinan sosioekologi dari obesitaspada mahasiswa dilakukan wawancara mendalampada 16 mahasiswa gemuk, danlima orang tua mereka,7 pembantu dekan/rektor urusan mahasiswa,10 pedagang makanan dan5 pengelola wirausaha makanan siap sajiyang berdekatan dengan kampus. Diuraikan faktor lingkunganyang berkaitan dengan kejadian obesitaspada kelompok mahasiswa di perguruan tinggiJakarta, dikemukakan perlunya perubahan paradigma promosi kesehatan diperluas dari perubahan perilaku individu menjadi perubahan perilaku individu, komunitas dan kebijakan pelbagai sektor kehidupanyang mendukung terciptanya keadaan kesehatan bagi seluruh penduduk. Dibahas langkahyang dapat dilakukan sebagai bagian pengembangan kesehatan masyarakat dan kedokteran komunitas untuk mengatasi masalah kesehatan masyarakatyang makin kompleks.
