Résumé
More than halfway into my fourth decade as a member of ASLO, and in my third year at the helm of ASLO's flagship journal, Limnology and Oceanography (L&O), two words sum up my pride in L&O and what I consider to be my primary scientific society, ASLO—peer review. I cannot count the number of times that I have told graduate students, authors, and even editors, how incredibly invaluable L&O reviews can be. As one of our highlighted reviewers mentions below, some of what are arguably among my best papers are in L&O and have benefitted from L&O peer review. I also have multiple papers that were initially, or eventually, rejected from L&O, but that profited immensely from extremely high quality of thoughtful, careful review, to the point of being published ultimately in other respectable outlets (this is where the “kids” would insert an lol) that focus more broadly on ecological and general sciences. Granted, in most cases, the published manuscripts differed substantially from the version initially submitted to L&O, but admittedly, it was the high caliber of review that made eventual publication possible. Of course, the papers that I have published in L&O also benefitted tremendously from stringent review, they simply were more relevant for the L&O readership and maneuvered well the gauntlet of L&O's reviewers, associate editors (AEs), and editors. Without a doubt, it is the dedication of ASLO members to sound, quality science that make our peer review and journals top of the line. The AEs and reviewers below are but a few of the many excellent researchers who work selflessly to ensure L&O's stature in the realm of scientific publications. These AEs have competently and capably processed an average of 20 or more manuscripts each in the last year, and the Reviewers below have averaged five manuscript reviews each with an average turnaround time of 19 days! I cannot imagine working with a better group of people.
