Résumé
Current Opinion in Organ Transplantation was launched in 1996. It is part of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The field of organ transplantation is divided into 18 sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce the Section Editors for this issue. SECTION EDITORS Parsia A. VagefiParsia A. VagefiDr Parsia A. Vagefi graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Johns Hopkins University, followed by medical school at Yale. During medical school, Dr Vagefi was a HHMI Research Fellow at MGH under the direction of Dr David Sachs, where he investigated large animal models of allograft and xenograft tolerance. Dr Vagefi returned to MGH for his general surgery residency, followed by transplant surgery fellowship at UCSF where he was awarded the American Society of Transplant Surgery Novartis Fellowship in Transplantation for his clinical research with Dr Sandy Feng, investigating operational tolerance in recipients of simultaneous liver and kidney transplants. In 2011, Dr Vagefi joined the MGH staff, eventually serving as Associate Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation and Surgical Director of Living Donor Liver Transplantation. Dr Vagefi also held an appointment as a Senior Investigator at the Center for Transplantation Sciences, establishing an effort focused on the clinical application of liver xenotransplantation- with his group having now achieved the world's longest survival of a pig liver in a non-human primate. In January 2018, Dr Vagefi joined the UT Southwestern team as Chief, Division of Surgical Transplantation, and currently holds the Ernest Poulos, MD Distinguished Chair in Surgery. Juliet EmamaulleeJuliet EmamaulleeDr Juliet Emamaullee is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine and an attending transplant surgeon at Keck Hospital of USC and Children's Hospital-Los Angeles. She is also the Associate Chief, Division of Clinical Research, USC Department of Surgery, where she helps oversee >70 clinical trials. She is a surgeon-scientist with a translational immunology lab, with a research focus on immunological phenotypes associated with liver transplant recipients. Dr. Emamaullee's other research interests include living donor liver transplantation, disparities in access to liver transplant, Fontan-associated liver disease, and tolerance strategies to improve allograft survival. Dr Emamaullee received her B.Sc. in Chemistry in 2000 from the University of Alabama and then relocated to Edmonton, Alberta to complete her Ph.D. in Immunology (2005) and M.D. (2010) at the University of Alberta. Dr. Emamaullee completed her residency in General Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 2015. She returned to the University of Alberta for fellowship training in transplant and hepatobiliary surgery and then joined the faculty of USC upon completion, in the Fall of 2017. Dr Emamaullee holds leadership roles in several surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, American Society of Transplantation, and Association for Academic Surgery. She serves as Chair of the North American Living Liver Donation Innovation Group and is on the Steering Committee for the UNOS Liver Paired Exchange Pilot Program. She has over fifty peer-reviewed publications and has received over fifty academic and research awards and is presently supported by National Cancer Institute K08 Award.
