On April 28 in San Diego, Calif., Pamela A. Hymel, MD, MPH, FACOEM, will be installed as the new president of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM). Dr Hymel is among eight physicians who will take office during ACOEM’s 94th annual membership meeting. The meeting is held in conjunction with the 2009 American Occupational Health Conference. Dr Hymel is Global Medical Director of Cisco Systems in San Jose, Calif. She holds the position of Clinical Faculty at the University of California, Irvine. Dr Hymel received her MD from Louisiana State University in New Orleans and her MPH from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Preventive Medicine, certified in occupational medicine.FigureOther officers to be installed for 1-year terms are President-elect, Natalie P. Hartenbaum, MD, MPH, FACOEM, and Vice President, T. Warner Hudson III, MD, FACOEM. Washington Occupational Health Associates is sponsoring its biannual Occupational Hearing Conservation Course on May 12 to 14, 2009, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. This Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation course encompasses all 3 days for certification, or a single day (May 13) for recertification. The fall offering of this course will be held from October 26 to 28 with the recertification course scheduled on October 27. These courses are designed to certify health and safety personnel to test hearing and to establish hearing conservation programs in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements. He is an internist, environmental and occupational medicine specialist, and epidemiologist. This award is presented to a physician who embodies the spirit of Dr Hardy by their dedication and service to the field of occupational and environmental medicine.
