Akerblom et al. in Uppsala found the rim area of the optic nerve head to be smaller in prematurely born children than in children born at term. Kristensen et al. in Aalborg found that relatively few patients switch away from beta blocker eye drops and risk of new onset of obstructive pulmonary disease is not increased. They suggest that more glaucoma patients might be eligible for ophthalmic beta-blockers. van Dijk et al. in The Netherlands found that the cancer drug Pimasertib is associated with high risk of development of ocular adverse events including serous retinopathy and possibly retinal vein occlusions. Hatem et al. in Copenhagen found that Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is associated with long-term loss of visual function, and treatment strategies need to be improved. Lindholm et al. in Finland conclude that ‘the lean approach’ management improved the treatment protocol for Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy with substantial reductions in lead times without compromising patient satisfaction. Liesenborghs et al. in Maastricht found the prevalence of optical coherence tomography detected vitreomacular interface disorders to be 16% and more common in diabetes and in women. Jonsson et al. in Umea studied the genetics of Stargardt disease in particular mutations of the ABCA4 gene. Jakobsen et al. in Aarhus suggest that the area of fixation can be used to measure effect of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor treatment in patients with diabetic macular oedema Torp-Pedersen et al. in Denmark issue a warning for the increasing incidence of laser pointer injuries. Leffler et al. in USA ask whether couching started when a goat with cataract punctured its eye with a thorn. Mottet et al. in France and Switzerland found choroidal blood flow to be reduced after ranibizumab injection in neovascular in age-related macular degeneration patients. Brockmann et al. in Berlin study the effect of immune system in choroidal neovascularization in a mouse model. Ctori et al. in UK found optical density measurements of macular pigment to be more reliable than subjective profiling system. Pemp et al. in Vienna and Singapore describe a correlation between inner retinal tissue loss and diminished autonomic regulation in type 1 diabetic patients with mild-to-moderate NPDR. Meng et al. in USA, Finland, UK, Sweden, Australia and Singapore performed a genome-wide association study of severe diabetic retinopathy and present new evidence for the involvement of the NOX4 gene. Uji et al. in USA used multiple image averaging in OCTA enface to enhance image quality. Waizel et al. in Switzerland found a difference in retinal oximetry values between children and adults and suggest that retinal oxygen metabolism changes throughout lifetime. Zola et al. in UK found fundus autofluorescence patterns to develop gradually over time in patients with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy and not to be good outcome measures. Miyata et al. in Japan found age related changes in the disc-fovea angle on fundus photographs. Chen et al. in Singapore describe peripheral retinal changes in highly myopic young Asian eyes.
