Résumé
We sincerely express a deep sense of pleasure and great honor to welcome all the HONET delegates on behalf of the HONET-CNS 2013 organizer team and co-organizing institutions. Especially our warm welcome is extended to the International delegates from USA, Canada, Turkey, Europe, Australia and SAMENA region (South Asia, Middle East, & North Africa) as well as participants from the host North Cyprus. The historic magnificent and friendly region of Magosa (Famagusta) is a welcoming place for all visitors from near and far converging from the globe. It is junction and convergence point for delegates for CNS (Communication Networks and Security) and HONET legacy areas (Communication Technologies and Enabling & Emerging fields, e-Applications and Nanophotonics). During the past decade, the world and this region including Cyprus and Republic of Turkey (Turkiye Cumhuriyeti) has invested great resources in building, expanding, and cultivating their higher education and technology sectors. In today's world ICT, which enables the global internet, intelligent electronic media, social networks, and variety of communications has permeated all walks of life. This year besides CNS and ICT topics, the Social Networks are also part of the theme. The deployment of massive fiber links across the globe including the Mediterranean region and wireless access offering mobility are now connecting the world and enabling the educational institutions such as EMU and the private sector to be leading partners and collaborators in world's research, education, and economic growth. HONET also plays an educational role among NRENs through collaborations with leading teams and researchers from academia and industry. For example, this year's leading keynote presentations include speakers from USA, Canada, UK, UAE, and Pakistan representing industry and educational sector. Several contributed papers come from SAMENA (South-Asia, Middle-East, & North-Africa) region as well as from various others distinguished speakers from around the globe. This year specially marks the 10 th International Conference of its series. On April 11 th NUST (National University of Science & Technology) celebrated the 10 th anniversary of HONET by conducting 1-day workshop attended by ICT industry and academic leaders; and UNC Charlotte was also represented. HONET started in Islamabad with hosting of NUST in 2004 as a NSF sponsored US-Pakistan International Workshop. Soon thereafter, its role expanded and it emerged as a truly international conference to bring together a diverse community of professionals from academia, industry, and government functionaries from the participating region.
