The launch of the on-line electronic manuscript submission system took precedence in the editorial of the last issue of Veterinary Dermatology. In this editorial, it is my pleasure to give further details of the three Co-Editors who deal with the manuscripts submitted. During 2004, after the resignation of Karen Moriello, I became a Co-Editor as well as Editor in Chief. This enabled me to appreciate the difficulty of the task and the amount of work involved. Peter Hill has been Co-Editor since 2002 during which time he has made an invaluable contribution to the continuing improvement in the quality of the Journal. As the Journal has increased in size, there is too much work for two people so a further two Co-Editors have now been appointed. We are still searching for a fourth Co-Editor for the team. Peter Hill graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1986 and spent five years in small animal practice before moving to the USA to undertake a residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1993, he returned to the UK and completed a PhD on mast cell biology at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh, followed by a further eight years as lecturer and then senior lecturer in veterinary dermatology. In March 2005, he became senior lecturer in veterinary dermatology at the University of Bristol, combining clinical and teaching responsibilities with an active research programme. His main interest is the pathogenesis of allergic skin disease, including the interaction of cutaneous micro-organisms with the immune system. Dr Hill holds the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. He is the author of over 40 scientific publications, has written the textbook Small Animal Dermatology: A Practical Guide to the Diagnosis and Management of Skin Diseases in Dogs and Cats and is a member of the ACVD Task Force on Canine Atopic Dermatitis. David McEwan Jenkinson has a BSc in Physiology, a PhD in Environmental Physiology, a DSc in Comparative Dermatology and an LGSM in Speech and Drama. He is an independent scientific consultant and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Institute of Biomedical and Life Sciences (IBLS) at the University of Glasgow. Dr Jenkinson has 40 years of active research experience and has published over 100 original refereed papers. He has written book chapters, reviews and popular articles on environmental physiology; skin biology; and the histopathology of skin diseases, and recently produced a textbook on comparative mammalian skin biology in CD-ROM format. He has extensive experience of scientific peer reviewing and, as a self-employed consultant, has had contact with a wide range of scientific disciplines ranging from engineering to nursing. He also has considerable teaching experience, particularly with post-graduate students, including a period in India for the United Nations. He has been an external examiner for MSc, PhD and DVM degrees in the UK and other countries and during his time as a Senior Scientific Adviser to the UK Government in Scotland gained considerable experience of the ‘translation’ of science for general administrators, Government ministers and the general public. He is a member of the European Society of Veterinary Dermatology and of other learned societies including The Society for Investigative Dermatology; the Physiological Society; the Royal Microscopical Society (Life Fellow); and the British Association for Cancer Research (Founder Member). Rosanna Marsella has a DVM Summa cum Laude from the University of Milan, Italy and holds the Certification of Qualification Test to practice Veterinary Medicine in the European Community. She is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD). Her clinical experience started in small animal practice in Italy. She then studied veterinary dermatology at The Animal Medical Centre, New York, and gained experience by working with well known dermatologists in a variety of locations. These included the Royal Veterinary College, London, England, Louisiana State University, Colorado State University and in California and Virginia-Maryland. She also attended the European School for Advanced Veterinary Studies in Luxembourg. She is currently Associate Professor in Dermatology, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida. Professor Marsella's research has included an experimental thesis in Pharmacology using High Pressure Liquid Chromatography. She is the author of over 40 peer reviewed publications and is a member of the ACVD Task Force on Canine Atopic Dermatitis. She reviews for a number of scientific journals and has given invited lectures in countries including Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Italy, Spain, and the United States of America. Her main interest is pruritic skin disease, particularly atopic dermatitis and its treatment. The whole Board was delighted that David accepted the invitation to become a Co-Editor. He has vast international scientific experience and breadth of knowledge to contribute and is an exceptionally able reviewer, Peter and Rosanna have blossoming clinical careers with wide experience of clinical practice in both North America and Europe. The Journal is fortunate to have attracted all three Co-Editors. Veterinary Dermatology is the official journal of the European and American Societies and Colleges of Veterinary Dermatology. We are pleased to announce that the Journal is now the official journal of both Australian and Canadian Societies (Chapter of Veterinary Dermatology of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and Canadian Academy of Veterinary Dermatology).
