Outstanding <scp><i>L&O</i></scp> Associate Editors and Reviewers

It is always a pleasure to acknowledge a few of the many dedicated people who make Limnology and Oceanography (L&O) the highly respected journal it is. During the preceding year and a half, L&O's editorial board processed nearly 1700 manuscript reviews from 1128 unique Reviewers. Below are just some of the team of talented researchers who make my job as editor much easier than it could be. This quarter's team of outstanding Associate Editors combined represents more than 25 years of experience at L&O. The six outstanding Reviewers listed below, averaged six reviews with a mean turn-around time of 23 days, and importantly, provided authors with high quality, in-depth critical evaluation of their papers. It is not possible to overstate the true degree of value added to L&O and the aquatic sciences, in general, by Editors and Reviewers such as these. I thank them all. My goal is to understand the mechanics of the process-level mechanisms to inform ecology, conservation, and limnology/oceanography in general. I have been at the University of Florida since 2013 and currently lead the Coastal Hazards Modeling Lab and am Associate Director of the Center for Coastal Solutions. L&O is a high-quality scientific journal focused on the understanding of the physics, chemistry, and biological processes of aquatic systems. Under the effects of climate change and rising seas, it is critical that we preserve and promote the health of aquatic and coastal ecosystems, on which we greatly depend. Outstanding interdisciplinary science is necessary for that. I enjoy reviewing papers for L&O because the submissions are always interesting and because I tend to learn a lot from my peers by doing it. My work focuses on biological nitrogen fixation in nutrient-limited ecosystems where I am trying to identify key players, visualize and measure their activity using single-cell techniques and determine the environmental drivers of nitrogen fixation. For me, reviewing manuscripts is a vital part of scientific exchange. I am honored to review for L&O because this journal often publishes interesting papers at the interface between ecology and biogeochemistry and because I find the handling of the papers by the editorial board extremely professional. The move has encouraged me to expand my research from blue water pelagic oceanography to coastal science and land-sea interactions. I find the manuscript review process particularly rewarding when it is an author's first publication or when it is non-native English speaker. Conducting rigorous scientific research is a challenge and to write about the work in a foreign language makes the task considerably more difficult.”
