The thesis aims to introduce the main claims of the literature of the 'precariat' and - with the help of the related critics - propose a possible reconceptualization of the terms related to the notion of the precariat, wishing to contribute to the (Hungarian) use of these terms, and to stimulate further researches. In the dissertation, I describe in detail the specific characteristics of the wage-earning society - as the chosen reference point by many authors of the precariat - and of its' transformation, which started in the seventies, since this is the period of the introduction of the concept of the precariat. The literature began to use the latter to describe the new uncertainties, following the spread of the neoliberal approach, which claims the primacy of the free market. In recent years, however, an international debate emerged, concerning the use and utility of the term precariat, and of other related terms. To join this debate, in this paper, I carried out the presentation of the works of the main authors connected to the term precariat, in which a central importance is given to the recognition that the wage-earning society can only be interpreted within time and space constraints, so - write the critics - the precariat, as a concept based on it, is in a double sense Eurocentric. On the one hand precarity is widespread in the rest of the world, rather a norm than an exception. On the other hand, the transition from Fordism is a change in the global world economy, so the birth of the precariat - in the west - is only part of a much broader process. An analytical framework is needed, which can incorporate these two ciritcal aspects and allows the reconceptualization of the precariat. In support of this I claim the rethinking of the term precariat, as 'global precariat', in the frame of world-systems analysis. in doing so, I rely on authors who emphasize the ability of capitalism to integrate other modes of production and many different forms of control over the work.
