etc. Factors like the anatomical site and the type of prosthetic retentive part can also affect the overall survival rate of the implants.5 The presence of any soft tissue reaction around the implant site also aids in predicting the long-term survival of the implants.There isn't much research done on survival rates of implants in extraoral maxillofacial prostheses and the different factors affecting it.Hence, the purpose of this review was to analyze the effect of radiation therapy on different sites and its effect on the survival rate of implants.On most follow-ups, the most common complication seen in and around the implant site is the soft tissue reaction.[6][7][8][9] Hence, we also aim to evaluate the periimplant soft tissue reactions postimplant placement in auricular, orbital, nasal, and/or midfacial regions. IntroductIonMaxillofacial rehabilitation due to acquired or congenital defects is quite challenging, mostly involving many healthcare disciplines.Such defects can be socially challenging for the patients.With the recent advancements, many promising treatment alternatives can be provided for such cases.1 Initially, maxillofacial defects were rehabilitated using different plastic materials using various retentive aids.Three methods are used for holding the prosthetic framework-mechanical (eyeglasses), anatomical, and with the use of adhesive materials.But these have their limitations.2 With the advent of the osseointegration concept by Branemark in 1960, Implants were introduced in maxillofacial rehabilitation as well.In 1977, the first implant was placed in the mastoid region to support an auricular prosthesis.It was a remarkable achievement and better treatment options could be provided with the use of implants.They offer optimum support and better orientation of the prostheses.3 Oncological patients frequently undergo radiation therapy pre or postsurgically.This irradiated bone can be a potential risk for implant placement due to loss of micro vascularization and osteogenic potential.Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is many times suggested to reduce the effects of hypovascularity, but its effectiveness is still uncertain.4 Generally, the radiation therapy is given during the surgical phase, after which a sufficient period (9 months-1 year) is suggested before placement of implants to allow for sufficient healing to take place.There are many factors that affect implant survival rates, including age, general health of the patient, systemic diseases, 1-
