Résumé
Preparing Whose Canada? was a collective effort, and we gratefully acknowledge the contributions of a number of people and organizations. We were inspired by Aurèle Parisien, then at McGill-Queen's University Press (mqup), who first raised the idea for this volume and who provided untiring support throughout the first stages of the journey.Nearly all of the chapters in this volume were presented in draft form at a conference held at York University in Toronto, hosted jointly by York's Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (cerlac) and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (ccpa) in Ottawa. Many individuals made the event a success, especially conference coordinator Phillip Stuart Courneyeur, with his passionate commitment and expertise.Equally committed and effective was Eduardo Sousa from the Council of Canadians, who, with a team of volunteers, coordinated a public teach-in on the evening prior to the conference. The conference and teach-in were co-sponsored by the Council of Canadians, the Centre for Social Justice, Common Frontiers-Canada, and the Making the Links Coalition. These events were made possible by generous financial contributions from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (sshrc), ccpa, cerlac, the Canadian Auto Workers Union, the Canadian Labour Congress, and Leo Panitch (Canada Research Chair in Comparative Political Economy), as well as the support from various offices and departments at York University. Our greatest debt is to the contributors to Whose Canada?, who shared their expertise in the many subjects they tackled. We have benefited immensely from their collaboration and would like to thank this stimulating and dedicated group of scholars, researchers, and social activists for their tremendous work and enthusiasm. The sponsorship of the ccpa and, in particular, the unwavering support of its executive director Bruce Campbell, deserve a special thanks.Bruce served as co-chair of the conference at York and contributed to making this book possible in more ways than can
