Bot.14: 159.1994) designated as the "lectotype" the specimen Herb.Linnaeus 584.8 (LINN), and this "lectotypification" was supported by (Jarvis, l.c.).However, this "lectotypification" is ineffective because a syntype is cited in the protologue (Herb.Burser XI: 118) currently preserved at UPS-BURSER.The cited Burser specimen in the protologue takes precedence over any uncited material or cited illustrations (Art.9.12).Therefore, this specimen is the obligate lectotype of the name Stellaria cerastoides.The sheet Herb.Burser XI: 118 bears a specimen, several stems with leaves and flowers, and a handwritten label annotated as "Caryophyllus holostius montanus an j gustifolius alter Bauh.j Versus Hortum Dei.j 118".Juel (in Nova Acta Regiae Soc.Upsal., ser.4, 5( 7): 76. 1923) indicated "Burs:s Exemplar ist ohne jeden Zweifel Arenaria montana L. In Aschers.und Graebn.Syn.mitteleur.Flora, V, 476, wird dieselbe Bestimmung (nach D:r G. Samuelsson) mitgeteilt" (Burser's specimen is undoubtedly Arenaria montana L. In Ascherson & Graebner, Syn.Mitteleur.Fl. 5: 476, the same determination (after Dr. G. Samuelsson) is reported).My identification of this material agrees with Juel's identification.Certainly, the specimen at UPS-BURSER belongs to Arenaria montana L. (Cent.Pl. 1: 12. 1755), and therefore a lectotypification of this name using this specimen would be undesirable in terms of nomenclatural stability.Therefore, to apply Art.9.12 of the ICN would be nomenclaturally disruptive.Accordingly, for the purpose of nomenclatural stability and to support the continued and well-established use of the name Dichodium cerastoides, I propose to conserve the name with a conserved type under Art.14.9 of the ICN.In conclusion, I here propose the well-preserved and complete specimen at LINN, Herb.Linnaeus No. 584.8 (LINN), as the conserved type of Stellaria cerastoides.This specimen shows diagnostic characters of this species (e.g., leaves 6-20 × 1-2.5 mm, linear to oblong, obtuse; flowers 1-3; pedicels up to 8 cm, slender, glandular; bracts herbaceous; sepals 4-6 mm; petals deeply bifid; styles 3; capsule oblong, straight, up to twice as long as sepals; 6 teeth), and clearly represents the current application of the name (e.g., Jalas & al., l.c.; Dequan & Morton, l.c.).Because of the existence of Arenaria cerastoides Poir.(Voy.Barbarie 2: 166.1789), rejection of the present proposal would not affect Arenaria montana, but a new combination "Dichodium lapponium", based on the heterotypic synonym Cerastium lapponicum Crantz (Inst.Rei Herb.2: 402.1766), would have to be proposed to name what until now has been known as Dichodon cerastoides.(3000) Proposal to conserve the name Soda against Sevada (Chenopodiaceae s.str./ Amaranthaceae s.l.)
