Résumé
Professor Hesham F. Idriss was born on 16 July 1959 in Alexandria, Egypt. He was one of the eminent and pioneer professors in the field of oculoplastic surgery. He received his MBBCH from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt in November 1983. He received the Master’s degree in Ophthalmology from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt in September 1988 and the Doctor’s degree in Ophthalmology from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt in August 1994. He got an Exchange Scholar at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami School of Medicine, Florida, USA in 1999 under the supervision of Professor David Tse (Oculoplastic Service). He also got observerships with Mr. Geoffry Rose at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital (London) in 2003 and Dr. David Jordan at Ottawa Eye Institute (Canada) in 2013. He got his training as a resident at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt in 1985-1988. He started his academic career at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt as an assistant lecturer in February 1989, and as a Lecturer, Assistant Professor, and became a Professor of Ophthalmology in October 2004. He was the Mentor of Oculoplastic Doctorate Course at Alexandria Ophthalmology Department since 2007. He was a supervisor and examiner of Master and Doctorate theses in Alexandria University. He was a member of several Ophthalmological Societies including the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society (1984), Egyptian Society of Ocular Implants and Refractive Surgery (1990), Delta Ophthalmological Society of Egypt (1992), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (1999). He became an associate member of the European Society of Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery (ESORPS) in 2012. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the Delta Journal of Ophthalmology. Professor Hesham F. Idriss was a pioneer in lid, lacrimal, and orbital surgery and in Ocular Oncology and ocular surface diseases. He has several national and international publications in Ophthalmology in general and in Oculoplastic surgery in particular. He trained many Ophthalmologists on oculoplastic procedures, and he was really a great and generous mentor in his field. He was really one of the best clinicians, surgeons, and mentors in Alexandria University and in Egypt. As he passed away in 10 February 2023, we really feel that we lost a great professor and mentor. May his soul rest in peace.
