Résumé
Aim of study. In the last decades the mean global temperature on the Earth’s surface has increased extremely rapidly. This increase was mostly caused by the anthropogenic emission of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, which intensified the greenhouse effect and climate changes. Climate changes also affect ecosystems, which are reservoirs of carbon and links in its cycle, by a complex system of feedbacks between different elements of the environment. Depending on the scenario of CO2 emission in the development of the world, the future climatic conditions will influence the role of ecosystems in the carbon cycle and thus their condition. The current potential of forest, wetland and agricultural ecosystems to sequester carbon were assessed on the basis of selected areas. The author also tried to determine the influence of rainfall and humidity on variations in the productivity of the ecosystems at different time scales. Material and methods. The CO2 exchange between the Scots pine forest in Tuczno, the peatland in Rzecin and the farmland in Brody was assessed by making measurements with the eddy covariance (EC) method. The EddyPro® software was used to calculate fluxes. First, the data from all the sites were checked for quality. Next, the missing data were filled with two methods: Max Planck Institute of Biogeochemistry (MPI) and Fluxnet Canada Research Network (FCRN). Both methods gave comparable results. Two systems equipped with open-path (OP) and closed-path (CP) gas analysers were used for EC measurements above the forest. The measurements made with the OP system indicated greater assimilation of CO2 than the measurements made with the CP system. The research showed that the measurements made with the OP system needed additional correction and the correction methodology was proposed. After the correction there were similar monthly totals of the net CO2 exchange fluxes obtained from both systems. This finding is important in the context of comparisons of EC measurements made in different parts of the world, in various ecosystems. Results and conclusions. In the current climate the average carbon sequestration potential of the Tuczno forest amounted to 418.5 ±11.8 g·m–2·year–1, whereas in the Rzecin peatland it was 118.6 ±26.0 g·m–2·year–1. Forest and wetland (peatland) ecosystems may play an important role in the removal of anthropogenic CO2 emissions from the atmosphere. In comparison with the assimilation of CO2 the emission of this gas at the forest and agricultural sites increased during rainfall. This effect was mainly caused by reduced total radiation density (Rg) at that time. The increase in CO2 emission, caused by intensified respiration of the ecosystem, was observed only in the farmland.
