Résumé
It is a great pleasure to publish and archive the abstracts of the oral and poster presentations that will be made at the 78th Annual Meeting of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM). In keeping with the theme of the meeting – ‘Translating Discovery’ – the abstracts reveal a wide variety of research topics that can provide an apt narrative of where the field stands and where it is heading. These range from molecular biology to societal engagement, from neonatal life to adulthood, from clinical evaluation to technological assessment, from careful registration to epidemiological analysis, from therapeutic intervention to outcomes, and come from an array of settings across the world. Not every abstract addresses knowledge translation directly, but presentation at the meeting and the collection within this supplement of Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology offer the opportunity for many fruitful links to be made. Other important translations are highlighted in the abstracts of work directly involving people with lived experience, which may lead to better integration of this expertise into research, clinical practice, and service provision. All these abstracts were selected for presentation by the meeting scientific committee from a much larger number of submissions. However, readers of this supplement should bear in mind that the work summarized in the abstracts has not undergone the review and editorial process through which we evaluate full papers submitted to the journal. Their value resides in sharing results for discussion at the meeting and beyond, which is a lively form of critical review that is both constructive and inspiring. I hope that many of these studies can in turn be written up as journal articles. I will be present throughout the meeting, wearing my bow tie and Mac Keith Press carnation, and so will other editorial colleagues. We will be happy to discuss material we publish, courses we make, any project, or any topic relating to our field – and friendship. I hope to see many of you in Quebec.
