Résumé
Heading into 2025, Molecular Ecology Resources continues as a leader in publication of broad resources for the molecular ecology community. Molecular Ecology Resources has ranked highly (> 90th percentile) for several years in categories of Evolutionary Biology and Ecology based on impact factor and additional indicators. The current impact factor (IF) for MER is 5.5, which is lower than previous years. However, other impact metrics that are less sensitive to quirks introduced by the new calculation of IF provide a more consistent picture for MER such as observed with the 5-year IF (7.8 compared to 8.0 in previous year), h5-index (66 which is the same as the previous year) and Scopus (CiteScore = 15.6 compared to 12.9 in previous year). The journal continues to navigate changes in the publishing landscape that includes new competition for quality papers, more options for open access, and improvements in the peer-review process. Ultimately, we strive to provide high-quality resources for the community with rigorous publication ethics and standards. Further, we aim to support our authors, reviewers and readers with responsive interaction and a high-quality experience. Top resources published in Molecular Ecology Resources in the last year include key contributions across multiple subject areas. One article in each issue may receive extra attention through publication as a “From the Cover” article. Further, Perspective articles are intended to highlight major advances and top contributions to the journal, and these articles are coordinated by News & Views Editor, Joanna Kelley. In the last year, articles on the cover of Molecular Ecology Resources focused on multiple new resources for the community including: refining the analytical resources for studies on landscape genetic resistance (Beninde, Wittische, and Frantz 2024), a new method for genotype–environment association studies called WZA (weighted Z analysis) (Booker et al. 2024), guidance for species delimitation in circumstances with limited sampling (Opatova, Bourguignon, and Bond 2024), advances in eRNA applications that can discern species life stages and population demographics (Parsley and Goldberg 2024), a useful review of metabarcoding pipelines (Hakimzadeh et al. 2024), a guide for applying local ancestry inference methods (Oliveira, Marchi, and Excoffier 2024), demonstration of genomics informed breeding practices to reduce inbreeding and genetic load in captive populations (Speak et al. 2024), and illustration of drone sampling to collect samples from baleen whales for population monitoring (O'Mahony et al. 2024). Additional top articles published in 2024 as selected by Editor-in-Chief Shawn Narum include a structured approach to the fastsimcoal2 package for demographic inference in conservation genetics or archaeogenetics (Marchi, Kapopoulou, and Excoffier 2024), a review of practical applications for estimating effective sizes (Waples 2024), non-invasive age estimation of bottlenose dolphins from methylation patters of faecal DNA samples (Yagi et al. 2024), genotyping of individual terrestrial mammals from snow track samples (DeBarba et al. 2024), and a fascinating example of a jumping supergene S-locus that controls heterostyly in several angiosperms (Potente et al. 2024).
