Résumé
It is a privilege to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief of Protein & Peptide Letters, succeeding the esteemed Professor Ben Dunn. His outstanding leadership has elevated Protein & Peptide Letters to an influential platform for ground breaking discoveries and a critical venue for scientific dialogue within the evolving realms of protein and peptide science. The legacy of excellence he has established serves as an inspiration and a guiding principle as I embark on this journey. The field of protein and peptide science lies at the heart of transformative advancements, reshaping our understanding of biological systems and driving innovation across medicine, biotechnology, and materials science. Peptides and proteins, as essential biomolecules and highly adaptable therapeutic tools, are central to some of today’s most revolutionary scientific breakthroughs. Advances in chemistry, structural analysis, synthesis, and bioengineering have unlocked unprecedented opportunities, leading to the creation of targeted therapeutics, sophisticated vaccine platforms, and advanced biomaterials with far-reaching implications for health and technology. We are entering a new era of scientific exploration characterized by interdisciplinary collaboration and rapid technological progress. Innovations in bioinformatics, structural biology, and chemical synthesis techniques have empowered researchers to decode complex biological phenomena with remarkable precision. These tools have opened new pathways in drug development, including peptide-based therapeutics and protein engineering, which hold promise for addressing long-standing challenges in treating diseases. The rise of peptide therapeutics, such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide), Ozempic/Rybelsus, and Wegovy (both semaglutide), represent a new generation of drugs that are revolutionizing the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. These glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists underscore the transformative potential of this research. Additionally, the growing ability to target protein-protein interactions once thought insurmountable is paving the way for innovative treatments for cancer, chronic diseases, infections, and neurodegenerative conditions. Peptides are also gaining recognition in non-traditional domains like cosmeceuticals, signaling a convergence of science and application in areas beyond healthcare. As the new Editor-in-Chief, I am committed to steering Protein & Peptide Letters toward continued excellence, fostering a platform that bridges foundational discoveries with practical applications. Our goal is to feature high-impact, interdisciplinary research and cultivate a diverse, inclusive scientific community united by a shared passion for advancing knowledge and innovation. Reflecting on my career, my fascination with peptide science began in the 1990s under the mentorship of Professor Luis Moroder (Late), a giant in the field whose influence continues to resonate with me. My formative work on chemical immunology at the University of Sherbrooke in Québec instilled a deep appreciation for scientific rigor and collaboration aimed at translational research. The motto “Je me souviens” - I remember where I come from - serves as a personal and professional compass, reminding me of the importance of roots and perspective in driving progress. Engaging with the next generation of scientists has always been a source of inspiration. Organizing the 37th European and 14th International Peptide Symposium in Florence in August 2024 was a remarkable opportunity to bring together over a thousand researchers from around the world. The event celebrated the dynamic participation of young scientists and featured luminaries such as Nobel Laureate Professor Morten Meldal and esteemed award recipients Professors Fernando Albericio, David Andreu, Ashraf Brik, and César de la Fuente. Their contributions continue to inspire both seasoned researchers and emerging talent in peptide science. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Professor Ben Dunn for his extraordinary contributions to Protein & Peptide Letters and the broader scientific community. I also thank our dedicated editorial team, authors, and reviewers for their unwavering commitment to excellence. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of protein and peptide science, showcasing the discoveries that shape the future of this vibrant field.

Scores machine (provisoires)
