Current Opinion in Neurology was launched in 1988. It is one of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The field of neurology is divided into 14 sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce the Journal's Section Editors for this issue. SECTION EDITORS Ona BloomOna BloomDr Ona Bloom is a Professor at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, USA, the research enterprise of Northwell Health, where she established a spinal cord injury (SCI) research program. She is appointed as Professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Molecular Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr Bloom also serves as the director of research for the Dept. of PM&R and is an affiliated researcher at the Spinal Cord Injury Damage Research Center at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx, NY. The goal of Dr Bloom's translational research program is to identify biological mechanisms and strategies to promote functional recovery and health in individuals with SCI, with a focus on the immune system. Dr Bloom's SCI research program has received external funding from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, the Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program, the New York State Spinal Cord Injury Research Board, the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Defense. She serves on ASIA's Research Committee and is an elected member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society. She has served as a scientific reviewer for many organisations, including the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, Wings for Life, Paralyzed Veterans of America, NIH, NSF and the VA. She currently serves as the Director of the International Symposium for Neural Regeneration (ISNR), an affiliate of ASIA. James GuestJames GuestDr James Guest, MD, Ph.D., FAANS, is a Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami, USA, and The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. Dr Guest has performed pre-clinical and clinical research in spinal cord injury for over 30 years. He received his MD from the University of Alberta, Canada, a neurosurgical residency at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Miami, USA. He received Neurosurgical Board certification in Canada and the US and advanced training in spinal neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute. His research focus is therapeutics translation, from pre-clinical models through pivotal clinical trials with an emphasis on advanced clinical trial designs and neurophysiological biomarkers. Studies encompass drugs and biologics for neuroprotection, the promotion of axonal regeneration, and neuroplasticity, as well as neuromodulation, rehabilitation, and combined therapeutics. He has received funding from the Department of Defense and NIH, for whom he serves as a Study section reviewer. He serves on the Grants Working Group of the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine and with the FDA to review biologics, cell, and gene therapy projects across a range of diseases. He is the Co-Chair of the North American Clinical Trials Network, which conducted the RISCIS study. Dr Guest has advised, led, and participated in approximately 25 clinical trials in SCI, including studies of neuroprotection, cell transplantation, monoclonal antibodies, and transcutaneous, deep brain and epidural stimulation. Riccardo SoffiettiRiccardo SoffiettiRiccardo Soffietti is Emeritus Professor of Neurology and Neuro-Oncology at the University of Turin, Italy, and Emeritus Head of Department of Neuro-Oncology University Hospital. He is now Director of CNS Metastases Program at the Candiolo Cancer Institute, Turin. Professor Soffietti was a Founding Member of the European Association for Neuro-Oncology (EANO). He held positions such as President of EANO, Chairperson of the Scientific Panel on Neuro-Oncology of European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and of Research Group on Neuro-Oncology of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), Chair of the Education Committee of EAN, Member of the Steering Committee of Brain Tumor Group of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), and Leader of the Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology (RANO) Group on Liquid Biopsy. He was a Member of the Editorial Committee of WHO Classification of CNS Tumors 2021. The research activity included – neuropathological studies on the effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy on tumours and normal brain; histological and clinical prognostic factors in CNS tumors; chemotherapy for oligodendroglial tumours; the design of trials with new drugs in gliomas, lymphomas, ependymomas, medulloblastomas and CNS metastases; the monitoring of treatment effects with advanced neuroimaging; molecular aspects of brain colonisation from solid tumours. He published 250 papers in highly impacted scientific journals, 16 books and 40 chapters in books. He was Executive Editor of Neuro-Oncology (IF: 16.4) and Section Editor of Current Opinion in Neurology (IF: 4.1). Prof. Soffietti received the Award for Excellence in Clinical Research from Society for Neuro-Oncology (US) and Life Achievement Award in Neuro-Oncology from EANO.
