Résumé
Current Opinion in Cardiology was launched in 1985. It is part of a successful series of review journals whose unique format is designed to provide a systematic and critical assessment of the literature as presented in the many primary journals. The field of cardiology is divided into 14 sections that are reviewed once a year. Each section is assigned a Section Editor, a leading authority in the area, who identifies the most important topics at that time. Here we are pleased to introduce the Journal's Editor and Section Editors for this issue. SECTION EDITORS Subodh VermaSubodh VermaProfessor Subodh Verma is a globally recognized cardiac surgeon-scientist whose pioneering and interdisciplinary contributions have transformed the landscape of cardiovascular science, surgery and cardiometabolic medicine in Canada and around the world. He is Professor of Surgery, and Pharmacology & Toxicology at the University of Toronto, Canada, and holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery. With close to 800 peer-reviewed publications, a Google Scholar h-index of 136 and nearly 100,000 citations in July 2025, Dr Verma ranks among the top 0.1% of highly cited researchers globally. He has played a key role in landmark clinical trials, including all five pivotal SGLT2 inhibitor studies in heart failure and GLP-1 receptor agonist trials in PAD, atherosclerosis and HFpEF. Dr Verma founded the CardioLink Trials Platform, Canada's first and to date only translational clinical trials infrastructure dedicated to cardiac surgery and cardiometabolic science. His groundbreaking discovery of human vascular stem cell exhaustion has unlocked novel mechanistic insights into atherosclerosis, obesity and diabetes—bridging high-impact human biology with clinical care. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Current Opinion in Cardiology and is an Associate Editor for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is the current Scientific Program Chair for the Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons. Wilber W. SuWilber W. SuDr Wilber Su is the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Banner – University Medical Center and Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona, USA as well as Stanford University Medical Center, USA. He has a background in biomedical engineering degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA and received his training at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota, USA for medicine, cardiology, clinician investigator fellowship, and cardiac electrophysiology. He has been very high-volume operator and has served as training physician in both implantable cardiac devices and complex ablation, notably in atrial fibrillation. He is also active in research with currently multiple important clinical trials and is the national primary investigator for several research trials. He is recognized as the key opinion leader and thought leader around the world as the leader in complex ablation and is a key opinion leader in cryoballoon ablation. He also has taught, presented, and published on various cryoballoon techniques. He has authored “Best Practice Guidelines for Cryoballon Ablation”, and book chapters. In addition, he also serves as a primary teaching center for mapping and ablation of complex arrhythmias. He is also a member of the writing committee for American Heart Association and Heart Rhythm Society national guideline. Dr Su currently serves as the president and governor of the Arizona Chapter of American College of Cardiology. Andrew HaAndrew HaDr Andrew Ha is a Cardiac Electrophysiologist at the Peter Munk Cardiac Center – University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto, Canada. Since November 2021, he has served as the medical director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology program at UHN. He is Associate Professor in the department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. As of February 2024, he is the inaugural holder of the Endowed Chair in Electrophysiology Leadership at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre. Dr Ha completed training in Cardiology and Electrophysiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He obtained a Master's degree in clinical epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, USA in 2013. His academic and clinical interests are in atrial fibrillation (AF), including: (i) post-operative AF after cardiac surgery, (ii) oral anticoagulation for AF-related stroke prevention, and (iii) real-world outcomes of catheter-based AF ablation. He had received research funding from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. Dr Ha co-led a multicenter randomized trial comparing two strategies of AF detection for post-operative AF after cardia surgery (SEARCH-AF). Dr Ha has co-authored 110 publications in peer-reviewed journals and more than 90 abstracts in national and international scientific conferences.
