Paramyia wheeleri, new species (Fig. 19-20; 26) Description. (Fig. 19) Total length ♂ 1.2 mm, ♀ 1.5-1.8 mm. Overall colour brown to dark brown, frontal triangle brown to dark brown, shiny, reaching lunule; frons 1.31 times longer than wide and 1.6 times wider than flagellum; width at widest point 2.0 times the bottom eye width; gena brown with prunescence, 0.09 times eye height; postgena brown to dark brown, with light prunescence and 0.24 width of head; scape and pedicel brown to dark brown, first flagellomere subquadrate, 1.1 times wider than long, brown with pale pubescence, arista dark brown and 1.5 times width of first flagellomere; moderate facial carina, easily visible laterally; palpus dark brown with 4 enlarge setae apically, 1 ventral seta pre-apical and a ventral row of slender setae, labium brown to dark brown 0.33-0.40 mm and labella brown to dark brown 0.36 mm long. Scutum shiny brown; scutellum brown, microsetose; all femur brown; fore tibia brown with apex paler and anterior side mostly light brown to yellowish; mid and hind tibia all brown; all tarsi light brown to yellowish; hind basitarsus shorter than length of tarsi 2-4 combined; haltere uniformly brown; wing 1.14 mm long; abdomen shiny brown to dark brown. Male postabdomen (Fig. 20). Epandrium in lateral view 1.25 times longer than wide, in posterior view 2.3 times wider than high (before cerci), small setae densely covering posterior portion of epandrium mixed with a low density of large setae; surstylus 1.1 times as high as epandrium, elephant trunk shape tapering in the first 1/3 and remaining thin until tip, with a large thick half circular structure situated basally with few short markings within, with only a few apical setae; cerci small and slightly rounded apically, 0.46 times length of surstylus in posterior view, medium length setae along the edge, uniform thickness in lateral view. The species name is in honour of Dr. Terry A. Wheeler who was involved in the early stages of this study but could not see the final product because of a brain tumor. He was quite interested in this species because the genitalia are so drastically different from the other species. Remarks. Females of P. anguliloba, P. lustrum, P. nitens, P. rectiloba, P. silvestris, P. wheeleri can only be reliably identified through sequencing.
