Older Adults Web Use and Accessibility - The W3C WAI Age Project

This presentation was produced for a learning and instruction course at the University of Ottawa's School of Information Studies. It is shared as an open education resource to be (re)used to teach viewers about the web accessibility needs of the older generation. It aims to teach viewers about the web accessibility needs of the older generation by briefly outlining their needs and the challenges they face when using the web. It identifies best practices to address these needs and create more accessible and user-friendly products for them. Its objective is to raise awareness and provide a starting point for creating websites and guiding principles for teaching web usage to older adults. The content is based on the W3C WAI-Age Project, which recognizes that designing products for older people is similar to designing for people with disabilities (World Wide Web Consortium Initiative, 2023) \n\nThe learning objectives of this presentation include gaining an understanding of the unique web accessibility needs of older adults, recognizing the significance of the W3C WAI-Age Project, and learning about the guiding principles for designing accessible and user-friendly web applications, products, and services for the older generation. \n\nThe presentation was produced using Microsoft PowerPoint, Canva, and Slidesgo. \n\nThe following references were used to inform the content: \n\nFreePik Company S.
