United States Census Bureau (2018). 2007 Economic Census: Economy-Wide Key Statistics: Value of Sales/Shipments/Receipts/Revenue/Business Done by US Nonemployer Establishments | Country: USA | State: Alabama | Counties within State: Randolph | ID: 44 | Sector: Retail Trade (Motor vehicles, hardware, food services, etc.) | ID: X | NAICS Code*: Total for all sectors, . Data Planet™ Statistical Ready Reference: A SAGE Publishing Resource [Dataset]. Dataset-ID: 001-046-006. Dataset: Presents the value of total sales, shipments, receipts, revenue, and/or business done by nonemployer business establishments (ie, firms with no paid employees during the year) in the United States (including Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and Washington, DC) at the state and county level. Value includes gross receipts, sales, commissions, and income from trades and businesses, as reported on annual business income tax returns. Business income consists of all payments received for services rendered by nonemployer businesses, such as payments received as independent agents and contractors. The United States Census Bureau defines a nonemployer business as one that has no paid employees, has annual business receipts of $1,000 or more ($1 or more in the construction industry), and is subject to federal income taxes. While generally, a firm is considered to be a single physical location where business is conducted or services or industrial operations are performed, for nonemployers, the Census Bureau counts each distinct business income tax return filed by a nonemployer business as a firm. A nonemployer business may operate from its owner's home address or from a separate physical location. Most geography codes are derived from the business owner's mailing address, which may not be the same as the physical location of the business. The Geographic Area Series: Economy-Wide Key Statistics dataset presents key statistics from the 2007 Economic Census for all establishments in the United States with one or more paid employees classified in the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Codes 21 through 813990, shown at the national, state (including Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and Washington, DC), and county levels. The Economic Census provides a detailed portrait of the US economy and is conducted once every five years, in years that end in 2 and 7. The Economic Census covers most of the US economy in its basic collection of establishment statistics. New for the release of the 2007 Economic Census is the inclusion of nonemployer establishments and receipt columns to complement the establishments, receipts/sales, payroll, and employment data for businesses with paid employees. The data are shown at the 2- through 6-digit NAICS code levels for all Economic Census sectors and at the 7- and 8-digit NAICS code levels for selected Economic Census sectors. The data in this file come from separate 2007 Economic Census Industry Series, Geographic Area Series, and Summary Series data files, as well as data files from the 2007 Economic Census of Island Areas and the 2007 Nonemployer Statistics. These files were released by the United States Census Bureau on a flow basis from March 2009 through mid-2011. Note that the 2007 Economic Census excluded sectors: the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting sector (NAICS 11), partially covered by the Census of Agriculture conducted by the US Department of Agriculture; and the Public Administration sector (NAICS 92), largely covered by the Census of Governments also conducted by the Census Bureau. Other excluded sectors are listed in the technical documentation, available at http://www.census.gov/econ/census07/pdf/meth/meth_00.pdf . Information on confidentiality protection, sampling error, nonsampling error, and definitions are also provided in the technical documentation. Data for nonemployer establishments are not available for the US Virgin Islands. The composition of nonemployer receipts may differ from receipts data published for employer establishments. For example, for wholesale agents and brokers without payroll (nonemployers), the receipts item contains commissions received or earnings. In contrast, for wholesale agents and brokers with payroll (employers), the sales and receipts item published in the Economic Census represents the value of the goods involved in the transactions. Category: Industry, Business, and Commerce Source: United States Census Bureau The US Census Bureau is a bureau of the US Department of Commerce. The major functions of the Census Bureau are authorized by Article 2, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, which provides that a census of population shall be taken every 10 years, and by Title 13 and Title 26 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations. The Census Bureau is responsible for numerous statistical programs, including census and surveys of households, governments, manufacturing and industries, and for US foreign trade statistics. The first US census was conducted in 1790 for the purposes of apportioning state representation in the US House of Representatives and for the apportionment of taxes. http://www.census.gov Subject: Self-Employment, Sales, Self-Employed Workers, Revenue, Receipts, Shipments
