of Trustees, delivered the keynote address.Cuneo, vice chairman of the board at Marvel Enterprises, is renowned for his ability to turn around struggling businesses.During his presentation, "True Leadership in Today's Environment," he spoke of the challenges that all people -not just business owners -face today in uncertain times."Today, we're facing more of the unexpected than ever before," said Cuneo, referring to a presidential race in which "both candidates appear flawed"; a controversial war in Iraq; a troubling economy; and, of course, the specter of terrorism."Butthe special thing that America is has made us resilient.I'm sure we can make things better.How can we prosper?How can we survive?"Cuneo offered some basic principles of leadership he feels lead not only to success in business, but also in life at home and in the community.Among them were a need to generate positive energy in the face of negative situations; communicating honestly and consistently; making decisions and changes that may be unpopular; and setting clear moral standards.Dr. David Martin, dean of the AU College of Business, spoke of the criteria that the Galanises and Alfred University use in choosing award-winners: commitment to growth; embracing change and innovation; producing value for the customers, and a demonstrated commitment to employees.AP Wagner was founded as The Buffalo Washing Machine Repair Company in 1928 by Frank and Clara Jarmusz.The company is now run by a third generation of the Jarmusz family: Donald and Michael Jarmusz, grandsons of the company founders, serve as president and chief executive officer, respectively.Today, AP Wagner is the second-largest appliance parts distributor in the United States and Canada
