This study is entitled “A Study on the Ability in Using Personal Pronoun of the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the School Year 2015/2016”.The statement of the problem is formulated as follows: 1) Are the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the School Year 2015/2016able to use “Personal Pronouns” in English sentences correctly?, 2) What is the ability level of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the School Year 2015/2016 in using “Personal Pronouns” in English sentences?, 3) What is the area of difficulties in using “Personal Pronouns” of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang? The main objectives of this study are the following, (1) to find out and to know whether the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang are able to use the “Personal Pronoun” in English sentences or not, (2) to find out the students level of ability in \nusing “Personal Pronoun” (3) to find out area of difficulties in using “Personal Pronoun” of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang. The research method used in this study was descriptive method. It is a method used to describe and analyze the ability of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang in the school year 2015/2016. The respondents of this study were 35 students of the class \nVIII B. „The instrument of this study was the test consisted of 50 test items. The test was divided into two types namely multiple choice consisting 25 items and underlined words consisting 25 items. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 are able in using personal pronoun. (2) the ability level of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang in the school year 2015/2016 is 8.0. It is classified as Good according to the standard of measurement. (3) the areas of difficulties of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang are: (a) personal pronoun as subject he, for example: Student answer: Tom is in Canada it is studying at a University, and the Correct answer is: Tom is in Canada he is studying at a University. (b) personal \npronoun as object her, it, and them, for example:Mary speaks with Sandra. Mary speaks with her, Nick repairs my car. Nick repairs it. Nadia likes cats. Nadia likes them. Based on the analysis some suggestions are offered by the writer. (1) for the English teacher of SMP Negeri 1 Kupang to pay more attention to explain and to give more variety exercise about personal pronoun as subject he and personal pronoun as object her, it and them. (2) for the students should more improve their knowledge of grammar in general and personal pronouns in particular. The students especially those studying at the researched school are suggested to get a \ngood way of how to learn and to use personal pronoun as subject he, and personal pronoun as object her, it and them. The students are suggested to learn grammatical rule, the example sentences, and practice the use of English grammar \nin general and personal pronoun in particular.
